“But you dance lightly on this paper meadow
My barefoot Venus, ink is on sale for you
And your quick feet have already written hundreds of novels
Dance, because one day everyone will dance
And looking down at their feet, they will read your name
Freedom.”

“Let your boat of life be light, packed with only what you need—a homely home and simple pleasures, one or two friends, worth the name, someone to love and someone to love you, a cat, a dog, and a pipe or two, enough to eat and enough to wear, and a little more than enough to drink; for thirst is a dangerous thing.”

“‘Well, in our country,’ said Alice, still panting a little, ‘you’d generally get to somewhere else — if you ran very fast for a long time, as we’ve been doing.’
‘A slow sort of country!’ said the Queen. ‘Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place.
If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!’”

Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass

“The knowledge of the laws of functionality and the artistic respect of our imposing and little known heritage of healthy and honest rural architecture, will perhaps preserve us from academic repercussions, will immunize us against the bombastic rhetoric and above all will give us the pride of knowing the true indigenous tradition of Italian architecture: clear, logical, linear, morally and even formally very close to contemporary taste.”

“... someone could have shown us other destinations, other routes, disregard a path already taken or even tell us that "all of these roads here are mine", but we know that the world of wonders is still possible, in the choices we allow ourselves to make, in not being afraid to put our trust in the field of taste and preferences, in the process of personalising, or thinking that perhaps a home is not forever, but forever is rather the memory we keep of it”

“Men never defied the arrows: in case they defied the animals that were killed by the arrows or in some way sublimated the idea of killing animals or - more often than not - they defied themselves. But the arrows, as such, arrows remained until the ritual, for a kind of return journey, in sublimating the killing of the animal, did not take the arrow within itself. At this point (...) the design begins, which in those days meant to engrave magic signs or symbols on the arrows and so it continues; or even to give a special shape to the arrows.”

When your client is a genius, you may be asked: how can we change the idea of an unhappy past, avoiding the tabula rasa? how can we make everything fit? a real kitchen, a room for conversation with a hearth, a reading room, a study with a map of the world, an alcove with a private bathroom, a two-seat Jacuzzi? Could we also add a bunk bed for the children (with dedicated bathroom of course) and a genkan (玄関) where one can leave ones shoes and walk barefoot?

“he who does not know the Chilean forest, does not know this planet. From those lands, from that mud, from that silence, I have gone out to walk, to sing all over the world”
